Recently, I had a really casual chat with the operations manager and the graphic designer just by the generators. Power holding held power and generators were acting funny. Laptop batteries ran out, Wi-Fi was dead, so we had some time to lounge as we awaited either Mr. Malomo the engineer or PHCN to release the power they were holding.

told them an important story about how I spent my earnings from my job trying to lay the foundation of this business.

I told them how I could have bought some properties with my little earnings but bought machines instead.

I shared how I sometimes used my salary to augment some misfortune in business. I shared with them how I got 25% of my contributory pension which the law permitted me to get from the pension scheme if out of job for 3 consecutive months and poured every single kobo including additional savings into buying a brand new equipment for my company in 2016.On Sunday, my friend told my wife that he knows I would rather buy another equipment than change my car… he was not far from the truth!***You see, entrepreneurship is not a walk in the park and not everyone would start or get millions of dollars in investment. Although that is most desirable, you might need to be crazy enough to bootstrap your way if you can.

Whatever route you take, every entrepreneur needs:

  1. 1. Unparalleled commitment
  2. 2. Some form of craziness in execution
  3. 3. An inexplicable optimism.

This list is not exhaustive but without these, I doubt if anyone can make a headway with entrepreneurship, even if you get 100 billion dollars grant.

We discussed many other things like the concept of savings and investment (I actually shared some things I learned from Alex Iheanacho with them on this subject). We came to the conclusion that, although we are not where we hoped to be, we are far from where we started. Yahweh deserves a lot of praise.

The next time you see an entrepreneur (especially a long term) riding a Mercedes and looking like fresh bread, always remember, it was not always like that; there is a lot of story behind it.

And to you who just started and things are kind of slow not necessarily because you are doing anything wrong (don’t rule that out, though), it may just be process you’re going through. Embrace it, you’d be glad.

As for me, as I told them, I feel like the journey just started…

***The beginning***
